The frames are made of oak or walnut hardwood. Walnut is a very rich dark brown wood. Oak is much lighter in color and is a harder more durable wood. The blacks are made of high quality Finnish birch plywood to insure against warpage.
The spring system on these frames is engineered to apply a strong even pressure throughout the entire negative. Doug believes that it is superior to other spring systems and in fact a number of people have had their frames from other manufactures retro fitted with Doug's spring system.
He uses double strength glass and a thick wool melton fabric for padding in between the glass and back.
